My Stroke of Insight:
A Brain Scientist’s
Personal Journey by
Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD
is a book that I would
recommend for just
about anyone. It is
Taylor’s story of having
a serious stroke caused by
a congenital defect at the
age of 37. Even at the time the
stroke was occurring, Taylor was aware of a certain
irony that an academic who studies the brain was
actually experiencing such trauma to the brain.

Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar…
By Thomas Cathcart & Daniel Klein
The subtitle of this book is
“Understanding Philosophy
through Jokes,” but even if
you don’t have a working
knowledge of philosophy
after reading this book, at
east you may enjoy the jokes.
The authors take us on very
brief journeys through terms
like phenomenology and
existentialism with periodic
quizzes throughout the book and a “bonus quiz” at
the end to see if you have been paying attention.

he refers to as the imperial presidency on a whole
line of past presidents and their administrations.
Much of his criticism falls on the government-
military complex and the ever-growing sentiment in
Washington that military power is always the key to
the resolution of nearly any issue. more...
American Savior: A Novel of Divine
Politics by Roland Merullo is a
timely novel, given our recent
election excitement. In this case,
there is a most unusual candidate.
Having despaired of the United
States solving its problems and
becoming a better nation, Jesus
returns to run for President of the
United States as a third-party
candidate. more...
